Feb 7 (Reuters) - Grant Prideco Inc GRP.N and National Oilwell Varco Inc (NOV.N: Quotazione) agreed with the U.S. Department of Justice to voluntarily provide the DOJ with more time to review the proposed merger of the two companies, a regulatory filing showed.

After an informal discussion with the DOJ staff, National Oilwell withdrew and refiled its pre-merger notification under U.S. antitrust laws, Grant Prideco said in a regulatory disclosure with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

In December, 2007, oil and gas service company National Oilwell had said it would buy its peer Grant Prideco for about $7 billion. (Reporting by Sayantani Ghosh in Bangalore; Editing by Pratish Narayanan)
