March 14 (Reuters) - American Electric Power Co Inc (AEP.N) said it will have to wait for clarity about the future of electricity generation in Ohio before it can determine if it can build an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant in the state.
“It’s disappointing that the Ohio Supreme Court decision did not provide the clarity we need to move forward with construction of an IGCC plant in Ohio,” AEP Utilities President Robert Powers said.
The company said it is still committed to IGCC generation. IGCC is a technology that can convert coal to a synthetic gas and remove or reduce pollutants from the gas before combustion. The gas is then used in a combined cycle power plant to generate electricity. (Reporting by Varsha Tickoo in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
