PARIGI, 18 febbraio (Reuters) - French consumer prices fell
1.1 percent in January from December, giving a year-on-year
inflation rate of 0.3 percent, EU-harmonised data released on
Thursday from the INSEE national statistics office showed.

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a decrease of 1.0
percent month-on-month and an increase of 0.4 percent
year-on-year.

BACKGROUND

French EU-harmonised inflation fell to an historical low of -0.8
percent in July 2009 and hit an all-time high of 4.0 percent in
July 2008, according to INSEE's records going back to 1991.
